Privacy Policy

This describes what Peelmark actually collects, why, how long it is kept and who else handles it. It is written from what the software does, not from a template.
Who is responsible
Peelmark decides how and why your information is handled here. You can reach us at support@peelmark.com.
What we collect
Images you upload. The image you choose, and the result we produce from it.
A browser identifier. If you use Peelmark without an account, your browser generates a random id and stores it locally. We use it only to count your daily free allowance. It is not linked to your name or to anything else about you, and clearing your browser storage erases it.
Google account details, if you sign in. Your name, email address and profile photo, as Google provides them. We never receive your Google password.
Usage records. How many images you have processed in the current day or month, how many batches you have run, when your trial started, and a short-lived counter used to limit how many requests arrive in a minute. That last one is keyed by a one-way hash of your account id or IP address, not by the address itself.
History records, if you sign in. For each removal: the file name, the date, and whether it came from a single image or a batch.
Subscription status, from Paddle. Which plan you are on, whether it is active, and the ids Paddle uses to identify your subscription and customer record. We never receive your card number. Card details go to Paddle and never reach us.
We do not use analytics, advertising or tracking services. There is no Google Analytics, no advertising pixel and no third-party tracker on this site.
Why we use it
- to remove the background from the images you upload and give you the result;
- to count and enforce free allowances and plan limits;
- to prevent abuse, such as one person consuming the service automatically;
- to run subscriptions and keep your plan in step with what you have paid for;
- to answer you when you contact support.
How long it is kept
This is the part most policies are vague about, so here it is precisely:
- Single images, not signed in: processed in memory and never written to our storage. The result goes back to your browser and nothing remains.
- Single images, signed in: a copy of the result is saved so your history can show it. Stored files are deleted automatically after 1 day.
- Batch uploads: the images you upload, each result, and the ZIP are all written to storage so the batch can run. All of them are deleted automatically after 1 day.
- History records: the row - file name, date, source - stays after the image file has been deleted, so your history still lists what you made. These rows are kept until you ask us to remove them.
- Batch records: the record of a batch and its per-image results stays in our database after the files are gone. These are kept indefinitely at present.
- Usage counters and trial dates: kept for as long as the account or browser id exists, because they are what stop an allowance being used twice.
- Account details and subscription status: kept while the account exists.
- Rate-limiting counters: short-lived, and swept automatically.
Where something is kept longer than the product suggests, we have said so above rather than rounding it down.
Who else handles it
We use a small number of providers, and only for the purposes listed:
- Photoroom - the image-processing provider. Your image is sent to Photoroom to have its background removed, and the result comes back to us. This is the only third party that receives your images.
- Google Firebase and Google Cloud - hosting, sign-in, database and file storage. The project's data region is us-central1, in the United States.
- Paddle - payments and subscriptions. Paddle is the merchant of record, takes payment details directly, and tells us only whether a subscription is active.
Your information is processed and stored outside Uganda, principally in the United States and wherever these providers operate. By using Peelmark you understand that this is where the service runs.
We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with anyone else except where the law requires it.
Cookies and browser storage
We set no advertising or analytics cookies. What is stored in your browser is:
- A visitor id in local storage, to count the free daily allowance for people without an account.
- Your sign-in session, kept by Google's authentication library so you are not signed out on every visit.
- Two short-lived notes in session storage: which plan you were looking at before signing in, and whether you have already been shown a reminder that your trial is ending. Both are cleared when you close the tab.
- An offline cache, so the site can be installed and opened without a connection.
- Paddle's own cookies, set only if you open the checkout, and governed by Paddle's privacy policy.
All of these are needed for the service to work as described. The fonts are served from our own domain, so loading a page does not call out to a font provider.
Your choices
You can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, or to object to how we use it. Email support@peelmark.com and we will respond.
There is no button in the product yet that deletes an account and its data. Deletion is handled by us on request by email. We would rather say that plainly than imply a feature that does not exist.
You can also stop most collection yourself: use the service without signing in, and clear your browser storage to erase the visitor id.
Children
Peelmark is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has given us information, write to support@peelmark.com and we will delete it.
Security
These are the measures actually in place, and we have not listed any others:
- everything is served over HTTPS;
- database and storage rules stop one signed-in account reading another's records and files, checked against the verified sign-in token rather than anything the browser claims;
- the keys for our image-processing provider and for Paddle are held on the server and never sent to the browser;
- payment details are handled entirely by Paddle, so there are no card numbers for us to protect.
No service can promise perfect security, and we do not. If something happens that affects your information, we will tell you.
Changes
If this policy changes we will update the “Last updated” date at the top and post a notice on the site.
